I Bardos finns charkuteri, mini-snabbköp, två restauranger, bagare och post.
                           Närmaste strand: Anglet, ca: 30 min. fem kilometer lång.
              Stranden kantas av barer och strandcaféer. Surfingskolor för vuxna och barn. 
Norr om Anglet/Bayonne finns orörda stränder, som sträcker sig cirka 15 mil upp till Bordeaux.
              Biarritz: Klassisk badort med världsberömd surfing.
Genuina kvarter, fina saluhallar.

Bayonne: korsvirkesar

kitektur från 1500-talet, charmiga gränder och gågator. Fin saluhall och vår bästa matmarknad; lördag förmiddag, året om.
                             Guèthary: typisk baskisk fiskeby, världsberömd surfingbeach.
              Roligt café och krogliv. Bra antikmarknad i högsäsong.
              St Jean de Luz: charmig turiststad med anrik historia.
              Trevlig shopping, genuina matbutiker och restauranger, caféer.
              Ett spa direkt på stranden. Läcker mastmarknad/saluhall.

Lite längre bort/Spanien
              Till spanska gränsen tar det ca 30 min. med bil via motorväg från Bayonne
              Hondarribbia: gräns mot franska Hendaye.
              Hondarribias gamla stad är från 1400-talet med vacker barockarkitektur.
              I hamnkvarteren finns genuina tapasbarer.
              Franska gränsstaden Hendaye har fantastisk strand.
              San Sebastian: ligger ca fem mil från vårt hus. Här finns otaliga tapasbarer i gamla staden och några av
              Spaniens och världens mest berömda restauranger.
              Bilbao: ca: 2 timmar från vårt hus. Tapasbarer, krogar,shopping, Guggenheimmuseet.
              Våra spanska grannprovinser Rioja och Navarra är utflyktsmål med vin- och gourmetupplevelser i fokus.

Det baskiska köket

Det baskiska köket är en fusion av spanska och  franska mattraditioner. Matmarknader i byar och städer speglar  matkulturen.  Närodlade råvaror finns på många ställen; alltifrån grönsaker till ost  och kött.  Specialiteter:  Fromage de Brebis, pyrenéerost gjord på fårmjölk. Piment d'Espelette,  spansk peppar som pulver, används i olika styrkor i nästan all mat samt  ibland i choklad.  Bayonne- och Serranoskinka.  Gateau Basque, mjuk mandelkaka med fyllning av körsbärssylt eller  vaniljcreme. Piperade, tomat- och paprikasås  till kött, fisk och  omelett.  Merguez, god, kryddig korv att grilla. 
                           Patxaran, eau de vie gjord på slånbär.  Iroleguy, Baskiens eget vin; ett av Frankrikes mista vindistrikt.

Situation: The house is located 1,5 km from the village of Bardos. It is divided into two apartments which can be rented individually or together, providing accomodation for between three and eight people. The property is an easy drive by car from Biarritz International Airport (approx 30 minutes). Take the motorway from the airport in the direction of Pau/Toulouse; from junction four, it is a ten minute drive to Bardos and our house.
The location of the property is extremely quiet. The only noise is likely to be a passing farmer from one of the neighbourhood farms! There are magnificent southwest views to the Pyrenées.

Small apartment:

Approx. 50 sqm - sleeps three.
Ground floor: Living / dining room with fully equipped open kitchen. Includes: stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, TV / DVD, radio. There are sliding glass doors onto the terrace. Spacious shower room / wc. First floor: Large master bedroom with twin beds plus smaller single bedroom. There is also a dressing room on the landing.  Walled terrace seating area with: Electrical fitting for outdoor cooking. Exercise swimming pool 14X2,5 m. (NB. the pool is occasionally shared with guests from the larger apartment). Bed linen, towels etc included in the price. Cleaning equipment included. Please leave the property in the condition that you find it. A cleaning and laundry service is available during your stay if required: 40€
Prices: Jan-May: 500€ per week. June: 600€ per week.
July, Aug, Sept : 700€ per week. Oct, Noc, Dec, 500€ per week. Check in time: 15.00 onwards. Check out time: 11.00
Booking run from Saturday to Saturday.

Separate smaller shower room + WC. First floor: Large twin bedroom. There is a simple outdoor kitchen between the garage and the main entrance. Bed linen and towels are included. Cleaning equipment included. Please leave the property in the condition that you find it. A cleaning and laundry service is available on demand: 60€
Prices: Jan-May: 900€ per week, June: 1000€ per week. July, August, September: 1200€ per week. Oct, Nov, Dec: 900€ per week.

Pau, approx 1.20 min, Bilbao, approx 1.45 min, Bordeaux, approx 2 hrs and Toulouse, approx 3 hours.

In the neighbourhood

You will find basic shopping facilities in Bardos: butcher, bakery, small self-service supermarket and store, post office, a bar and two restaurants.

Closest beach: Anglet is very close to Bayonne and has a five kilometer expanse of sandy beach which stretches all the way to Biarritz. There are restaurants, cafés and simple beach bars alongside. There are surf schools for children and adults. The beach is extremely well maintained. North of Anglet / Bayonne, there are unspoiled sandy beaches extending all the way to Bordeaux. Hossegor is an important destination for surfers due to the excellent conditions. The town is very lively during the summer months with a bustling Sunday morning market.

Biarritz: A classical resort whose popularity really took off with its discovery by the Empress Eugenie of France in the 1860s.
Considered to be the birthplace of surfing in France and now home to world famous surfing championships. The old town is particularly attractive with good shopping and fabulous food halls (Les Halles) open daily all year around (08.00-13.30). Great range of bars and restaurants. You can sit and watch the surfers all year around in one of the cafes on the famous "Grande Plage" beach.

Bayonne is full of half-timbered houses dating from the 16th century. The charming narrow streets add to the character. Foodies can visit the food halls or speciality food shops and on Saturdays there is an impressive open air food market where local farmers come to sell their produce.
The "Fête de Bayonne" takes place every year in early August and is world famous, with bull fights, jazz concerts, classical music and much, much more. As well as being renowned for its speciality ham, Bayonne was also the first city in Europe to start making chocolate, during the 17th century.
Guèthary is a typical old Basque fishing village, with a world famous surfing beach. During the summer months, the Saturday antique market is lots of fun.There are numerous bars and restaurants, plus simple fish restaurants by the beach offering fresh fish and seafood during high season.
St Jean de Luz is a charming little Basque seaside town with an interesting history.
There are nice, intimate shopping areas, quality food stores, restaurants and cafés. There is also a renowned spa located directly on the beach. A food hall will provide you with locally sourced and produced food.
The wine districts of Iroleguy, Jurancon and Madiran are all at a relatively close distance from Bardos and worth a visit. You can taste the local wines and stock up for your return home!

Distance to Spanish border : 45 min from Bayonne (via motorway)

Hondarribia (Fuentarrabia) is a Spanish border town, mirroring the French town of Hendaye. The old town of Hondarribia dates from the 15th century, with beautiful baroque architecture. The harbour area boasts numerous genuine tapas bars.

San Sebastian is around 50 km away from our house. Here you´ll find numerous tapas bars and some of the most famous Michelin starred restaurants in the world. There is fantastic shopping to be had, plus a diverse range of cultural activitie.

Bilbao is around 120 km from the house. The Guggenheim Museum is a must with its stunning architecture and important permanent collections. The old town is charming and picturesque with lots of great tapas bars and fun shopping.

The Spanish neighbouring provinces of Rioja and Navarra are easily within reach. Here, you´ll find both sumptous and simple traditional wines - as well as gourmet experiences. The provinces are well worth a visit; you can go there and come back in the same day.
If you want to prolong your stay, there are numerous nice hotels, Paradores and Casas Rurales ( B&B style).

The wine districts offers bodega visits, rustic family restaurants and beautiful, wild countryside. In Rioja and Navarra, you will also find some of the best olive oil producers in the world.

The Basque cuisine

Our house is a gathering place for celebrating great food and good wine.
The Basque Cuisine is a fusion of Spainish and French culinary tradition.
There are numerous food markets in villages and towns in the local area and many specialist producers, many of these are organic. The two countries kitchens are extraordinary in their simplicity and traditional way of cooking. However, there are many new trends which mix old and new in an inspirational way.

Regional Specialities:
Fromage de Brebis: Pyrenéean cheese made from   sheeps milk. It is served in thin slices with black cherry jam.
Piment d´Espelette: dried peppers grown in the local commune of Espelette, used in many dishes and recepies.
Bayonne and Serrano ham.
Gateau Basque: A sweet, heavy cake, made with a hint of bitter almonds and filled with custard or cherries
Merguez: a hot and spicy sausage, perfect for the BBQ
Patxaran: an ´eau de vie' made from sloe berries which originates from the Spanish province of Navarre
Iroleguy: The Basque wine from one of France´s smallest wine producing districts.
